    Nurse Manager of NICU RN

Houston, Texas Permanent Nights (7PM–7AM) | Rotating Weekends | On-Call Rotation

    The Opportunity

Leading a 30-bed Level IV NICU — one of the highest-acuity newborn care environments in the country — this Nurse Manager role puts you at the operational center of a high-volume unit in Houston, Texas. Three positions are open, the result of department growth and increased unit demand. Reporting directly to the Director, you will drive nursing standards, coordinate quality improvement, and ensure clinical outcomes across days, evenings, and nights. The unit is active, the footprint is substantial, and the leadership responsibility is real.

This is a nights-based position running 7PM to 7AM. Weekend rotation is a built-in expectation — two weekends per month covering Thursday, Friday, and Saturday — plus one week of on-call every six weeks. All shifts in this role carry a weekend and on-call requirement. Candidates must be able to meet those scheduling parameters consistently.

A $20,000 sign-on bonus is included for this position. Compensation is Competitive Based on Experience. Relocation is considered on a case-by-case basis for candidates making a geographic transition.

Candidates must hold a BSN and a current Registered Nurse license in Texas or a multi-state compact — compact license holders are expected to obtain Texas licensure within 60 days of hire. Current American Heart Association BLS certification is required. A minimum of two years of NICU experience is expected, along with recent acute care NICU leadership — within the last year — at a Level III or Level IV unit. Two or more years of charge nurse or management experience is required.

If this role fits where you are in your career, apply now or book a confidential call. We will cover the full scope of the position, the unit environment, and what a move to Houston looks like from wherever you are today.

    Why Houston?

Houston is the fourth-largest city in the United States and one of the most genuinely diverse metro areas in the country. The cost of living runs below most comparable urban markets, and Texas carries no state income tax — a meaningful financial advantage for healthcare professionals at any career stage. The city spans a wide range of neighborhoods, from walkable urban districts in Midtown and Montrose to family-oriented suburbs with strong school systems in Sugar Land, Katy, and The Woodlands. Year-round warm weather, an extensive park network, and a food scene shaped by more than 145 nationalities make daily life here consistently engaging. Whether you are relocating with a family or making a solo move, the metro accommodates a wide range of lifestyles without the cost premium of coastal markets.

For healthcare professionals, Houston carries a specific draw. The Texas Medical Center — the largest medical complex in the world — sits just south of downtown, and proximity to that ecosystem shapes career trajectories in ways that few other markets can match. Continuing education, subspecialty collaboration, and professional networking are all readily accessible. Houston's major airports connect directly to most U.S. cities, which matters for both professional travel and personal logistics. If you are looking for a city that supports clinical ambition, offers genuine quality of life, and does not penalize you financially for living well, Houston makes a strong case.
