The Opportunity
This is a permanent RN Manager opportunity overseeing a full-service Labor and Delivery unit on the Seacoast of New Hampshire. The role carries real operational scope — clinical quality, staff scheduling, physician relations, patient satisfaction, and fiscal accountability all fall within your purview. If you've invested years on the L&D floor and you're ready to lead at scale, this is the kind of position that rewards that depth of experience.
One opening is available. This is a full-time role working days with rotating weekend coverage. The unit is an 18-bed Family Care Services department that includes five labor rooms, seven postpartum rooms, one triage/antepartum room, three pediatric rooms, two surgical beds, a four-to-six bed Level II nursery, and a dedicated OB operating room — a well-resourced environment with genuine clinical breadth.
The reporting structure connects you directly to a market-level director, creating visibility that builds director-ready credibility over time. You'll lead a seasoned team of 27-plus FTEs — including RNs, an OB nurse navigator, three lactation consultants, unit coordinators, a massage therapist, and an internal hospital-based doula program — and work in close collaboration with a private all-provider OB group. Compensation is Competitive Based on Experience.
Candidates should bring 3 to 7 years of Labor and Delivery clinical experience in an acute care setting and 3 to 7 years of L&D leadership experience, both of which are required. An active New Hampshire RN license or a valid compact state RN license is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Candidates with more than three years of hands-on L&D experience will be particularly competitive for this role.
If your background fits this profile and you're open to a confidential conversation, apply now or book a call. A brief discussion is all it takes to determine whether this is the right next step.

The Package
Why Portsmouth?
Portsmouth, New Hampshire sits on the Seacoast at the mouth of the Piscataqua River — a small city with a quality of life well above its size. The downtown is one of the most walkable and genuinely livable in New England: harborside seafood, acclaimed farm-to-table restaurants, a craft brewery scene, independent boutiques, and a live music and arts calendar that sustains year-round. It is the kind of place people discover on a weekend trip and start quietly researching housing on the drive home. The area draws professionals who want real community without the cost or congestion of a major metro, and it delivers.
The outdoor access here is serious. Hampton and Rye beaches are minutes away. The White Mountains, the Lakes Region, and some of the best hiking in the Northeast are within two hours. Boston is roughly an hour south — close enough for a day trip or a show, not close enough to intrude on the quieter rhythm of Seacoast life. New Hampshire has no state income tax and no sales tax, which meaningfully extends take-home pay for anyone relocating from a higher-tax state. The school systems are consistently well-rated, and the housing market, while competitive, remains well below coastal Massachusetts. For a clinician weighing a permanent move, Portsmouth is the kind of community people choose on purpose — and tend to stay in.
