Newborn Nursery
A unit or area providing care for healthy newborns, including assessment, feeding support, and routine newborn procedures.
About This Unit
The Newborn Nursery cares for well newborns who do not require intensive or special care. The focus is on routine newborn assessment, feeding support, monitoring for common transitional issues, and procedures such as metabolic screening or hearing tests. Some facilities maintain a dedicated nursery space, while others keep newborns at the mother's bedside in a rooming-in model. The approach to newborn care and the role of the nursery are set by each facility's pediatric and nursing leadership.
