    Perinatal / Antepartum Unit

An inpatient unit for patients with high-risk pregnancies who require extended monitoring or treatment before delivery.

    About This Unit

Perinatal or antepartum units care for pregnant patients who are admitted for complications that require observation or treatment before they reach active labor. This can include conditions such as preterm labor, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, gestational diabetes requiring stabilization, or other high-risk factors. The unit works closely with maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialists. The length of stay, level of monitoring, and unit design differ significantly between facilities. Staffing models and patient assignment approaches are determined by each organization based on its patient population and acuity.
