    OB Operating Room (OB OR)

Operating room suites dedicated to obstetric surgery, most commonly cesarean sections, located within or adjacent to L&D.

    About This Unit

The OB Operating Room provides the surgical environment for obstetric procedures, primarily cesarean deliveries (both scheduled and emergent). These suites are typically located within or immediately adjacent to the Labor & Delivery unit so that surgical intervention can happen quickly when needed. The OB OR may also handle other obstetric procedures such as postpartum tubal ligations or surgical management of complications. The number of rooms, scheduling approach, and whether the space is shared with other surgical services are decisions made by each facility.

A note on scope: Every hospital structures its Women's & Children's Services differently. Unit design, staffing models, and patient-to-nurse ratios are set by each facility's clinical leadership based on its patient population, acuity, and resources. The descriptions here are a general overview — not a prescription for how any unit should operate.
